Laughing is good. Sometimes I get way too serious about life and forget to laugh...like when our builder gave us a final price that was $100 000 over our budget,
now that's freakin funny but I forgot to laugh, what the hell is wrong with me? Maybe he was joking?
...wish he was joking. Still sad and scared waiting for an adjusted price.
My kids make me laugh lots, they catch me off guard with their funny insights and questions and I am grateful for that, life without laughs would be super dull. Here are a couple examples from my journal (hope I haven't told them before):
Noah
"Cool! Liam's like a man, he's got butt hair!"
"I don't know why they always show all that sexing on TV, it's sick! "
Liam (said out of the blue...)
"I wanna be a french midget with a cool curly mustache"
or
"I've got some stuff to do tonight while you are sleeping for my club, so don't be worried if you hear me using my Lightsabre, there might be some bad guys to fight."
This makes me laugh:
thanks to my dear friend Stace for catching this shot as they played:
"
Friends have come and gone tonight and hubbie joined them for a trip to the pub, I am staying home with the leftover appies and the sleeping boys... thought I'd share some fun music I found on You Tube. I rarely go on but when I do I like watching songs from the 70's of any genre. Here are two links that make me laugh lately:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-NOZU2iPA8
Wish we could play this in church every week!

I am so proud of my Polish heritage. We might seem nerdy but really Polish people are cool in an alternative kinda way. That man can dance like nobody's business! (UPDATE::::unfortunately I was wrong and this isn't Polish...too bad, maybe it's Czech? Polish is still cool though!)
Are you ready for New Year's Eve? I am still undecided on what to do with my guys. They just want to stay home and hook up Noah's new Party in a Box light set from Liam for Chirstmas. I think I am ok with that but still feel a little inkling to take them somewhere. Tell me your plans....I really am interested.

It's snowing...
and snowing ...
and snowing some more here in Whistler. Perfect, fluffy snowflakes fall in large clumps from the sky creating mounds of fresh powder. I have yet to get up the hill...keeping the driveway cleared is about the extent of my outdoor adventures these days. We are almost caught up from Christmas and cleaned up and I can't wait to be back to normal.
Today, as I scooped away the snow on our driveway I had yet another of my famous falls, my old Emu boots are cozy warm but useless in the treads department and not good for snow play. I have a nice new bruise on my hip to prove it. Last pregnancy I landed on my ass more than once from these crazy boots while waddling around the village in the winter. Embarrassing and rather painful in some instances.
My bro-in-law to be caught me in the midst of one of my famed falls on Christmas Eve. I blame it on the boots, these aren't even my Emus, they are my copy cats from American Eagle that I love wearing everywhere in the fall.
Us local Whistlerites get a tad nasty and share many a laughs regarding the tourists. People go all out getting fashion ready for a winter holiday...full length fur coats with matching hats can often be seen on visitors coming from warm climates, expensive ski sweaters and Canadiana apparel is a definite giveaway too. The best though is still the girl in pristine Uggs tucked in stylish jeans carefully trying to avoid walking through puddles in the village. It's sad to see the poor souls who lay down a whack for Uggs trudge through slush and mucky snow. As hard as they try to keep clean and dry, someone will slosh by and speckle their boots with dirty water and snow. You really need something waterproof here.
A while back I found my dream booties on line but have yet to order a pair. Think colourful wellies combined with the cozy sheepskin warmth of Uggs...winter perfection!
Moovboots come in several patterns and two heights and so far they are at the top of my winter boot wish list. Dear hubbie was very sweet to buy me some snow boots for Christmas but they were not so cute or comfy so they went back, I am pretty frugal so I would rather save the money he spent towards something I love and will wear year after year. Luckily he's used to buying the wrong thing, and admits to not listening to what I want when I drop hints and he's not at all offended. Here is one fun option for Moovboots:
Also love the Alice and the tall styles.
Really, we had a draw dropping house quote that has been pretty upsetting so shopping is not in the cards at all right now...but at least when the right time comes I will know what I want. We chopped off a lot of extras and just about everything but the roof so I am still praying that it will work when they re-price things. Our lot is perfect for us, we love our plan and have great faith in our builder but there was a huge miscommunication on pricing with the salesperson and we need to get back on track.
Hope you are enjoying some post-Christmas calm...much love,

Another Christmas day has come and gone... Hope yours was Merry & Bright!
Now it's time to hunker down, munch yummy leftovers, play the new games and just be together. Enjoying new toys and books beside the tree in jammies is hard to beat.
We've been away at my parents and enjoying our time with family that we don't see enough of...sledding, feasting and challenging each other at Sequence and Cribbage. The boys played Star Wars the whole day together, except for a small break when they watched their new Star Wars Clone Wars Movie, only to resume play right after. I highlighted the word feasting because it really has been nothing less. My snacking has actually become painful and I need to gain some control! Last night, although stuffed like a turkey from our chili feast, I gave into temptation and ate my Mom's crazy Shredded Wheat and caramel and everything else fatty mix and I have been paying for it all day. Not being a normally gassy person I have actually scared hubbie today with my sounds and smells...not good! I even had to discretely leave the dinner table tonight for a bit as I had a cramp... I am so ashamed by my sad lack of willpower when I know better!
As for the rest of the day, hubbie and I took a nice late morning stroll in jammies and coats. Later we enjoyed watching the boys as they played on and on, completely devoted to their Star Wars missions. My poor sis went through mounds of tissues in her own personal battle against a head cold as her wonderful guy blended right in with our quirky group. I am so grateful to him for spending some time with me to get my Lightroom program running smoothly and clearing up some of my camera stumbling blocks. Wish I could simply import some of his technical smarts into my dumb-ass, chow hound of a brain.
Tomorrow we have to venture out for a bit to meet with our builder and finalize some prices on our future home build...I am very nervous. All took bets today guessing what the numbers would come in at, I am hoping for the best. Keep your fingies crossed for us...I do love what we have created so far and it would be hard to cut back anymore than we already have. Once we get on a good track with quotes and plans I will share some and ask for brilliant feedback from all.
Now I am sneaking off to bed early with my boys...Christmas blessings to you all, hopefully you have lots of time with those who matter most to you... and remember fiber (in disguise as snack mix) is NOT your friend late at night after a large chili feast!
p.s. Fat Free Egg Nog is just gross and not at all a viable substitute. Smaller amounts of the real thing is a better option. A friend also recommended it in tea and it is awesome...love it in coffee but the tea world opens up endless opportunities to experiment. Rooibos and Orange Pekoe are good so far.

It is cold...bitter cold. We actually have snow forming on the inside of our windows now. In my search to stay cozy I stumbled upon this cool new company. It's called Hot Wears. These fleece products are made in Vancouver and were originally designed to keep actors warm while filming movies. Hot hands bio-degradable, all natural warmers tuck into all of the pieces to keep you toasty warm. It's a great idea and I am definitely going to pick a few to order this winter. How nice would it be to have heat on your lower back as you shovel snow or wait in line for the bus? ...absolutely dreamy.
The body band...warms your back, your tummy, your body - your world...
Also makes me wish I looked that slim in white long johns! Check out all of their brilliant designs that hold heat packs at their site. They are listed under Neato Businesses on my right sidebar.

pictures are up now for the early readers, see below...
The excitement is building as school is out and Santa is getting ready to load his sleigh. This is such a fun time of year.
If you have kids who still believe in the man in red, do this...
http://portablenorthpole.sympatico.msn.ca/home
It just takes a moment and Santa will leave your child a very sweet personalized message. Liam is six and was amazed and slightly freaked out that Santa knew all about him!
Putting aside the three hours we just spent at the walk in and in line at the pharmacy waiting for eye drops and prescriptions. It never fails, this last week of festivities at school and home nearly slays my boys. The have dark circles and various strange ailments from excessively chapped lips and strained eyes from the cold but we are on the mend. My oldest cannot live without Lansinoh nipple cream spread all over his red, scaly lips and pure white ABC baby diaper rash cream on his chin. He looks completely insane but it feels good to him and he believes it's helping. I also got them their flu shots today as a precaution. ( I had to bribe them with hamburgers at Splitz Grill to make them go. A twenty dollar lunch out is well worth not cleaning up from a huge barfarama, hope it works! Plus we learned how to make the secret Splitz sauce...mayo, sour cream and tons of finely chopped kosher dills...delish ) Holiday chaos/excitement, plus Noah's birthday, combined with a full moon made for some tired boys and parents. All is well otherwise though, I say that with a big sigh of relief!
the best gift my kids made this year...for our friend Louise who adores her budgie. Louise loves Arthur so much she made him little bird sized towels that are monogrammed for after his bath...she is lovely and this will make her teary for sure. Noah did most of the work on this one.
The school Christmas Concert never fails to bring out the holiday spirit. We've got to know so many wonderful folks here, the gym is filled with warmth and familiarity.
Seeing my guy up there in grade 5, and looking so tall frightens me. I remember his first concerts when I fretted about how small and vulnerable he was. I have no idea where he got the pink tie! He picked out the patchwork vest himself, it's so cute.
The big boy birthday party. Sharing some fun with friends he's known since daycare here. By this point Noah was lying face down on the ice moaning in exhaustion so I'll have to paste him in later...too cold to wait around these days
I made Gingerbread Dudes and they decorated them...I call this one Death by Candy!
How sad, you can't even recognize him.
Yesterday, we hosted an intimate family Christmas brunch for a wee group of 40 people! I invited tons, expecting lots of no shows due to the holidays but almost everyone RSVP'd yes. It was wonderful but I was a tad nervous. Hubbie worked night shifts all weekend and was not available to help so I did a lot in advance. I have never cooked a meal for that many before. A friend came Saturday night to help decorate a small army of Gingerbread men, then we cooked batch after batch of bacon and sausages. All our windows are frozen solid with ice on the inside so our house still smells like bacon...I think I make people hungry when I pass wafting the greasy scent of it.
In the morn, I got the coffee perk going, whipped cream, made a blueberry sauce and mounds of pancakes. Noah cooked waffles galore. Caroline brought her famous quiches with granny smith apples and swiss cheese. Wish I had of snapped a photo, it was a fine spread and fun to pull out the silver ware and every fancy serving piece I own.
Everyone feasted then we went out to the yard to skate on the lake. The ice is perfect right now from this cold snap. We were blessed with a fresh dusting of snow to warm things up a bit and make the whole lake a winter wonderland. Brunch works so well with young families and large groups and much less expensive than trying to do dinner, I will do it again for sure in the future. There is nothing better than a house full of dear friends eating together. I also had tons of help cleaning up which made me so happy as we don't have a dishwasher.
Ryan's buddy has a styling snowsuit...too cute!
You know it's cold when you get icy eyelashes!
Wee Maggie attempting to pull Ry up the hill- she's my kinda little girl!
A family hockey game
This lil monkey doesn't like sitting on the bench...he's always in the midst of the action
What a great day, looking forward to seeing the photos from the other guests too as I was inside mingling most of the party.
Reading on O, I came across this quote which made me think of Christmas, and what it's really about:
If you knew what I know about the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing it in some way.

Here is a last minute fix that's fairly eco friendly...keep reading to see why. The Film Movementis offering Snickerdoodle readers 20% off plus free shipping on their DVD of the month memberships...that's a total savings of 40% and hard to beat. They are also offering 10% off and free shipping off everything else as well.
What a great thing to present in a card to the film buff in your life. Two promo links have been added to the my Sponsors sidebar on the left...they should take you where you want to go.
I love The Film Movement and these types of films don't often make it to our little theater here in Whistler. I would even like someone who received this gift to save all twelve after watching them and re-gift them to me...this could keep going Christmas after Christmas. Independent and foreign films never seem to loose their charm.
Today is Noah's birthday party and I have a whack on gingerbread dudes to make for them to decorate. The kids are coming home on the bus, skating on the lake, having a fire, and hopefully pizza outside before they'll probably freeze their weenies off as it's minus 10 again! Then I'll let the maniacs in for a cookie fest and a movie. We are doing the One Cause/One Gift theme again to keep the presents to a minimum and try and teach them to be socially responsible at this time of year where they get sooo much.
A last minute book order for Kids Guide to Whistler also came in yesterday evening...it's a bit hard to fit in but at this time of year it's also hard to say no to a little more income. I'm sure you know what I mean.
much love friends,
k

This is what Liam is giving his classmates...a holiday portrait of their class stuffy Oatmeal the monkey. We dressed him in some new clothes and posed him last time he came here for a visit.
I have been wrapping gifts for days now...I thought this post was appropriate. Hoping this is true for the modest gifts I made and bought this year.

Christmas music is playing in our home all day, everyday...I love it. Tree lights get plugged in first thing in the morning before the day breaks and stay on all day. They are LED but still I am a bit energy selfish when it comes to Christmas...lights and songs make me soo happy.
For the past few weeks I have been playing some CD's by an artist I found at the library. They have names like Joy, Peace and DIng, Dong! no joke. All are by Sufjan Stevens, recorded under his label Asthmatic Kitty, and they are amazing. Soft, lovely and interesting. I also like the classics like Bing and the Charlie Brown soundtrack but they can start to get to be a bit much when you play them over and over like I tend to. Hubby would gladly whip my last year's favorite Kenny G, Faith CD into the fire and would certainly attest to my listening addictions.
This is what I want for Christmas! Please Santa, I've been mostly good. If you want it too it's available from my Chapters Indigo sponsor link on the left sidebar for $26.99. All commissions go to World Vision.
Here is a little loot I snagged off the Asthmatic Kitty web page as I really should be working on my holiday cards...hope Sufjan doesn't mind:
Forget the 50 States. Christmas is a bigger concept. As some of you may or may not know, for the past few years, as a holiday tradition, Sufjan has embarked on an extraordinary experiment to record an annual Christmas EP. It started in 2001, the year of Epiphanies, and continued onward (skipping only 2004), culminating into an odd and idiosyncratic catalog of music that has only existed in the Asthmatic Kitty archives (and on a number of file sharing sites). The recording process took place every December, for one week, usually at home, provoking collaborations with friends, roommates, and musical peers. Armed with a Reader’s Digest Christmas Songbook (and a mug of hot cider) Sufjan & friends concocted a musical fruit cake year after year, implementing every musical instrument they could find lying around the house: banjo, oboe, Casiotone, wood flute, a buzzy guitar, hand claps, sleigh bells, Hammond organ, and some tree tinsel. Did we mention sleigh bells? It doesn’t take much to capture that Creepy Christmas Feeling, does it? Recorded, mixed and mastered at home, the EPs themselves were often assembled in the kitchen, stapled together, and sent out with stickers and stamps to loved ones across the globe, year after year, with little Christmas cards that read: “Merry Christmas. You are something special. Santa Claus loves you. And so do I.” And then, one day, some of these songs showed up online. Curious little web zines and fan sites posted mp3s. People started asking questions. What is this I hear about Sufjan doing the boogey to the elf dance? Where can I get these Christmas goodies? Well, not wanting to be the Grinch, we decided to deck the halls, if you know what I mean.
But let’s back up a bit. Having an inherent aversion to the standard Christmas carol, Sufjan indulged in the project initially as an exercise to make himself “appreciate” Christmas more. It was a tough childhood, but you can’t be a Christmas Curmudgeon forever, can you? What he discovered, for better or for worse, was a fascinating canon of Yuletide hits, some emotionally rewarding, some painfully cliché. Jingle Bells. Silent Night. We Three Kings. The whole nine yards. The musical undertaking led Sufjan (and his coterie of friends) to reckon with a holiday that celebrates, above all things, the spirit of excess--Santa Claus, popcorn balls, mistletoe, and Kmart blue light specials, to name a few. What does it all add up to? A headache, a hangover, and sentimental ruminations of Baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and all those animals in the manger. Is there any other holiday that so seamlessly mixes the sacred and the profane?
Recording traditional favorites alongside unique originals, Sufjan has, over the course of five years, constructed an odd, impressive, and compelling collection of Christmas hits (and some misses) that will either warm your heart or make you throw up eggnog all over the bath mat (depending on your constitution). Asthmatic Kitty Records is preparing to release ALL of the material (newly mixed and mastered) in one generous box set, due in stores November 21, just in time for the holiday shopping craze. The box set (titled “Songs for Christmas”) will be chock full of surprises, including the following novelty items (if you don’t mind us ruining the surprise):
• Five individually packaged CD EPs!
• Five Christmas stickers!
• Extensive liner notes and short stories by Sufjan Stevens!
• An original Christmas essay by Rick Moody!
• An animated music video and comic strip by Tom Eaton!
• A Christmas Songbook with lyric sheets and chord charts--so you can sing along too!
This is one cool fellow and his bio and web page are a fascinating read. My guest writer (see yesterday's post) Noah is an ipod maniac now. We go to the library and he signs out heaps...listens and downloads things that speak to him and his quirky little heart. The first thing he ever picked and still is captivated by, is a series of Songs for the Chinese Zodiac...I never noticed until I started my new Sufjan fetish that they are also by Sufjan Stevens. Noah was very matter of fact when I popped in the first CD: "Oh yeah, that's Sufjan, he's good." I'm a proud Momma now, I want my boys to have a lot of Sufjan spirit in them...step out of the norm, be unique and find their own creative niches. I want them to be happy individuals,
Our individuality is all, all, that we have... blessed in the twinkle of the morning star is the one who nurtures it and rides it, in grace and love and wit....

The parcels are in the mail...all nine of them, containing all 23 gifts for various family members and friends. Now I can breathe again. It was the big Christmas concert night at school and you can't help but get into the holiday spirit after hearing kids sing together.
A few cards to mail, cookies to bake, and little things to finish up and I am ready. Yipee!
Today, my nine year old was home sick and I asked him to post for me so I could keep working on gifts... hope you enjoy.
What's your kids hobbie?biking?collecting dolls.......Well NoAH's are Ipod/Itunes and collecting StarWars action figures(I'll tell you about him and his Ipod). First of all he has an Ipod Nano 1st generation. he knows a ton about Itunes ,for instance he cold probally get the album cover for 90% of the songs you download onto your Itunes! One ofNoAH's favourite artists is MEATLOAF(I just bouht the CD "Bat Out of Hell" it's by MEATLOAF. It has a very creepy album cover. NoAH says "IT'S THE BEST ALBUM COVER IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!! This Cristmas NoAH wants G.I.(or maybe it's G.1.) Skullcandy headphones.
