body + soul...
Have you seen Body + Soul magazine? It's wonderful. Another great work of Martha Stewart, see the web page here:
I received a subscription from a forever friend who lives in Ontario, my Tammy. In my eyes, she is forever the "cat's ass" of coolness... wearing her spice coloured nylons in grade 5 when I was still in white leotards...
Tammy, who saved me from a raging reindeer once while we were playing at a horse farm, no joke. It was on my back, whacking me with his hoofs and she punched him in the nose. I still remember the hollow sound...then it ran away. There is nothing worse than a reindeer with a bad attitude! Anyways, thanks Tammy I love the magazine.
This month there is a 35 Days to a New You challenge...I read it through and it actually seems quite do-able so I'm doing it. (Why not do things that are do-able? Humm, that's a deep question that could take a while to contemplate...maybe another day.) Starting tomorrow of course because I found some mini eclairs in the fridge and ate 4...I don't think mini-eclairs are part of week 1!
So off I go, I hope you join me too! I think it would be fun to keep in touch about how it's going. I would love to have more energy, slim down a tad, and get all of my family eating healthier. I tend to get a bit of seasonal affective disorder in the dark days of winter and have had some liver problems so I think even small changes will make me feel better. I am dangerously close to being considered a fitness sloth and my ponch is threatening to get bigger than my post-baby boobies and that's just wrong!
Week 1 basics...Clear the decks
-cut back on caffeine by one third
-drink 6-8 room temp glasses of water throughout the day
-ease up on baked goods, refined sugars and alcohol
What to eat...
Drink what we call Good Morning Drink,
Warm water with fresh squeezed lemon and some high grade maple syrup if you have it...this is yummy and wonderful for stimulating the liver and releasing digestive enzymes. Every naturopath, Chinese medicine dr, yoga teacher, massage therapist I've had has recommended this. My boys actually love it.
Breakie:
hot homemade oatmeal with a cup of fruit and cinnamon
green or black tea if you want
I like to make a big pot of oatmeal at the beginning of the week with raisins and reheat it for us in the mornings in the microwave with some fresh milk.
mid-morning...munch an apple or pear and 10 natural almonds
Lunch:
A cup of legumes...like lentils, chick peas, beans etc.
A cup of cooked brown rice or quinoa
A cup of steamed veggies. Use garlic, turmeric, olive oil and ginger to season...no salt.
Herbal tea, ginger, mint etc...
Humm...I might have to get organized for this but sounds yummy.
snack...celery and carrot sticks with hummus
Dinner:
2 cups steamed veggies
1 cup of brown rice
Ginger tea
evening snack...warm water with lemon ( I might make that a herbal tea) and might have to add a small bit of air popped popcorn or a piece of fruit
So that's the basics of it...seems alright doesn't it? There is a day by day plan too.
Reflect
Today is the day to reflect. Take 20 minutes to write honestly about your diet.
What are the healthiest- and least healthy aspects of your diet?
Weaknesses?
What would you like to change about your food choices?
If this sounds like something you want to do to hop on line and sign up at wholeliving.com
Make sure to comment and tell me if you are going to be part of the challenge too so I can bug you lots, lol.

The lean clean eating plan sounds good. You will feel great after eating like that. Its our style.... :-) FYI- Honey instead of maple syrup in the water in the AM is great too. Also, steel cut oats out weigh regular oats for many reasons-one main one is that they are just less processed. The Costco hummus that comes in 2 packs is by far the best...we eat 2 a week! Good Luck! Let me know how you feel!
